Site Renovation

We are currently renovating the College's website. The end result will be a 'crisper' looking site. All the information is still in the usual places, just the look is changing. Please be patient with us!

Welcome to the College of Counselling Studies.

We are a distance education provider based in the New England and North-West areas of NSW, Australia with an aim to train rural people in counselling for rural communities.

CCS offers some unique features in its approach to counselling.  Some of these include:

  •  an exploration of each student's personal beliefs, values, philosophy and ethics;

  • the influence personal world view has on counselling including the effects of gender, race, beliefs, geographical location, age, vocation, experiences, etc;

  •  an holistic approach to counselling;

  •  an emotion inclusive focus;

  •  an emphasis on professional supervision at all levels of practice;

  •  supervised practical training with at least 150 hours face to face participation;

  • at least 80% of training is focussed on the skills of relationship counselling

These features are melded with topics taught in other courses such as: microskills; basic counselling skills; various strategies; models of counselling; a cognitive-behaviour interaction with affect; communication; introduction to psychology; individual, couple and family counselling; specific psychological disturbances, their aetiology, diagnosis and treatment with an emphases in referral and consultation.

The student's personal growth and well-being is considered at all levels.

CCS is also unique in that there is no CCS 'campus' as such.  Students do the majority of their studies at home.  CCS practical training is conducted in various centres around the New England and NW of NSW.   CCS tutors are available to students by phone, fax and email.  The Principal and most of the Administration staff are in rooms provided by the Anglican Counselling Service in Tamworth.  The main library is in Tamworth with small holdings in Armidale, Moree and Inverell.  Lecture note production and distribution is carried out from Inverell.   As well as no campus, there are no fixed semesters allowing students to fit their studies around their lives.
