Dear AllWhew, it seems I’ve just completed the last “What’s It” and it’s time to do the next. Things never stay the same for long with anything, and so it is with students and courses, especially in the growing stages. It was wonderful to meet so many students at the Plenary Day in Uralla 2 weeks ago. At that time there were 34 enrolled students and 23 attended the day. Catherine Richardson, who co wrote the Communication Unit with Lois and who corrects the assignments for that unit, spoke about techniques for writing assignments. There are notes available from her talk for those who are interested. There is also a useful section on the same topic in the green LRCCS book “Introduction to Basic Counselling Training.” The video on “Family Sculptures” by Margaret Toppam was an inspiration about what can be achieved in one counselling session and a great reminder of the effect our new study direction can have on family members. Lois cut a celebration cake for the naming of the College, although she did point out that she thought people should die before things are named after them. Counselling students please note the should ... who says we should. Practical UnitsWe are finding that new students to the College are helped greatly by working in a group as soon as possible after beginning their studies. For this reason I want to encourage any student who has completed the 25 hours of the Know Yourself Course to enrol in Counselling Practice 1, even as you complete your assignments for the second part of the Know Yourself Course. Of course you will need be able to attend the required 50 hours of practical work with one or more of the Tutors over the 20 plus weeks you have allotted to complete the Unit. News From Around The CentresInverellThere are 11 students currently enrolled in the Residential Practicum of 25 hours to be conducted by Lois in Inverell from 19th to the 22nd of July. Lyn and I will be assisting with this. TamworthI hope to be conducting a Practicum with students who work or are intending to work in the Tamworth Tutorial Group. We will be deciding on the meeting dates and times which will suit all. This group will be working at 2 levels as there are students who are due to enrol in Counselling Practice 2 in this group. Students who are not studying a Practical subject may continue to attend the Tutorial sessions alongside the Practicum students. UrallaThe Uralla “Know Yourself Course” begins on Saturday July 26 with Lyn. The Uralla Tutorial has been cancelled for July (replaced by the Inverell Practium). The next Tutorial date is Friday August 15 MoreeWendy will conduct a “Know Yourself Course” beginning on October 11 for people in the north/north west, before the heat, harvest and Christmas take a hold of everyone. Library NewsLois has almost finished a complete list of the library books that are in the LRCCS library. There will soon be a copy of this in each centre. The best way to find a book at present is to check your local LRCCS library first, then ring and ask Lois or Lyn. From RuthRuth handles Course enrolments and payments. She is based in Tamworth and is the first point of contact for students enquiring about matters of Administration. Students often ask what to do when they finish the last assignment of a unit. Answer ... send it to Lois for marking and ask for an application form from the Tamworth office tell us the unit you plan to study next. Many students are taking advantage of the EFTPOS facility at the Tamworth office to make payments for their courses and books. Some folk arrange with Ruth to pay their courses off with regular withdrawals from their account. InvitationYou are invited to join the Counsellors from ACS for an inservice course which will include; Dr Eleanor Knox and Ruth Blakely presenting Children’s Development including Attachment Theory and Lois Reid presenting Emotion Inclusive Therapy. This course starts in Inverell on 31st October at 1.30 and concludes on the 1st November at 5.00. The cost to students is $100 and the Vicarage accommodation is available. Best wishes,Jenny |
