Dear All,

Welcome to all new students who have begun studying the Counselling course after completing the Know Yourself Courses in Tamworth and Moree. This is a course that will challenge you to look at yourself and perhaps to change. If you have any queries or concerns do ring me or your local Tutor before panicking.

Lois and I are back after a restoring break on the South Coast. It was so inspiring that we think that we will go back. As there will be some students undertaking the course from there we will have reasons to revisit Sussex Inlet. Students in that area will be assisted by a former Anglican Counsellor, Ruth Oliver.

Practicals in 2nd Semester

We are planning to run Practical Units in the second semester in all Tutorial centres. Lois will run 3 day residential Practicals at Inverell on 16th, 17th and 18th July (Friday—Sunday) and on 1st, 2nd and 3rd October (Saturday—Monday).  We will publish a registration form for the Residential Practicals for you to tell us if you are coming in the next “What’s It”. For the present just note the dates.

Tutors at the other centres of Tamworth, Uralla and Moree will conduct shorter Practicals. The times for these Practicals will be negotiated with the students who will be attending and publicised in the “What’s It” newsletter.

Each of these Practicals can involve students at all 3 Levels of Counselling Training.

Any new student is encouraged to enrol in Practical 1 in the 2nd Semester. It means you will start counselling straight away and meet other students who can be a great support.

From the Desk

There is to be a new student financial assistance scheme to replace HECS called FEE HELP.  LRCCS students will be eligible to apply for an interest free loan.  This begins in May, we do not have details yet.

The NSW Institute of Psychiatry has agreed, in principle, to recognise the LRCCS course as a prerequisite for their Masters Courses.

We are streamlining administration procedures for students to complete units.  This should ensure that all the course requirements are met, LRCCS materials returned and fees paid.

This edition of “What’s It” contains a copy of the Unit Exit Report for you to photocopy and enclose with you last assignment for the Unit you are currently studying. When all requirements are met we will issue the Unit Certificate.

On a serious note ... We are approaching the end of first semester. How is your study programme?

Happy reading!

 Jenny
