Dear All,

After attending a Conference for Principal’s of Counselling Courses last month I was encouraged by the similarity of the problems we all face. Questions like “How to get students to do their personal work?”, What stops students getting on with assignments?” and “How do we address Countertransference in Supervision?” It is an amazing profession we are exploring together .

It is also a busy time as we tutors prepare for the Practicals in Semester 2 and you all finish one unit and prepare for the next.

Practicals in 2nd Semester

We are planning to run Practical Units in the second semester in all Tutorial centres. Students will need to attend at more than one centre to gain the necessary 50 hours of practical experience. We have been deliberate in this arrangement as there is a lot of benefit for students in working in a variety of groups with different individuals.

Lois will run 3 day residential Practicals at Inverell:

*16th, 17th and 18th July (Friday —Sunday) and

*30th September,1st, 2nd and 3rd October (Friday night—Monday) .

You will need to register for the July Residential on the form enclosed in this newsletter.

Tutors at the other centres of Tamworth, Uralla and Moree will conduct shorter Practicals.

Lynn will be running 2 Saturday Tutorials on September 18 and October 23 from 9.30—4.00 in the Uralla Anglican Church Hall.

Wendy and I are still to set our dates

I encourage new students to enrol in Practical 1 in the 2nd Semester. Doing the Practical subject first up means you will start practicing counselling straight away and meet many of the other students who can be a great support.

Tutorials

Inverell

Lois conducts a Tutorial on the 1st Saturday of the month at her home in Swan Street from 9.30 onwards. Ring her on Ph 6722 2279 to check in.

Armidale

The Armidale Tutorial is on Mondays, from 9.00—12.00 with Lynn at the Counselling rooms in the Anglican Registry. Lynn’s can be contacted on Ph.6772 9753

Tamworth

The Tutorial Day in Tamworth runs on the 2nd Saturday each month 9.00—12.00. We meet at 88 Bridge Street. Next Tutorial day will also be the Plenary day…...aren’t you lucky!

Moree

Wendy conducts the Moree Tutorials on the 3rd Tuesday of the months from 9-1 at the Anglican Counselling Centre. Wendy’s contact Phone number is 6752 3419

Library News

The arrangements for students to access the Library by phone or fax are: requests for books, journals and periodicals are to be made to the Tamworth LRCCS Office. Ph 02 6762 5210 and leave a message or Fax 6762 5740.

Of course you can still access the local LRCCS library collections at Armidale, Inverell, Moree and Tamworth by calling in to those centres. As the collections are not huge please try to keep to the fortnightly limit for borrowing so other students have a chance to use the books too.

Plenary Day

News Flash! The date of the Plenary day has changed and so has the location....due to forces beyond my control. We will now be meeting at Tamworth on June 12th 10.00—3.30.

Lunch and morning and afternoon nibbles will be available...for a fee of course.

Please ring the Tamworth office Ph 6765 2527 to register for that day.

From the Desk

It’s amazing to remember that this course was delivered by one person for so many years and now there are 10 of us involved in ensuring it runs smoothly.
