Dear All,

It seems a long time since I typed the last newsletter. During March I have been rather distracted as you probably know. In falling from my bicycle on an early morning ride with the dog I broke my right hip and left wrist, which is an awkward combination. I have been learning about disability, about asking for and accepting help.

I have been supported and encouraged by many during this time and am very grateful for this.

On that note Lois writes to remind us that EMPATHY is the oft forgotten, unused micro-skill. It is a comment on a person’s OVERT or COVERT feelings. If OVERT, it is an observation, if the feelings are COVERT it’s a guess. Either way, it says that the Counsellor is listening, attending and responding accurately.

Tutorials and Practicals

Tutorials at Inverell and Tamworth will run this weekend as advertised previously.

Please notify the Tutors by Wednesday in the week before a Practical that you plan to attend.

Armidale/Uralla Practical

Lynn’s planned Practical Unit for this Semester did not attract enough numbers to be viable.

This means that there will continue to be a 4 hour Tutorial in the Counselling Rooms in the Anglican Registry in Armidale on the 2nd Friday each month in the afternoon 1.00—5.00.

The next Practical sessions to be held on Friday evening 7.00—9.00 & Saturday 9.30—5.00 on May 6 and 7 in the Uralla Anglican Church Hall

Lynn can be contacted by phoning 6772 9753.

Plenary Day

Our gathering of students from all centres is planned for the 17th September, 2005.

Scholarships

Scholarships with LRCCS will halve the cost of each unit to students as the balance of the cost of the unit will be paid by the scholarship fund. Students may apply for scholarship help throughout the course. i.e. for each Unit. Application forms may be obtained via the Principal’s office. So ring, write or email to request a form.

Library News

A new book soon to reach LRCCS libraries. HAMILTON CRAIG Broken Open; 616.8 HAM.

This is the story of Craig Hamilton, well known ABC Sports Commentator, who was on his way to the Sydney Olympics to broadcast and had a psychotic episode on the Newcastle Railway Station. He was taken to the psychiatric unit by police escort. This is his story of Bi Polar Disorder, its treatment, his recovery, with comments by his psychiatrist, his wife and several friends. A good read, but essential to students doing the Mental Health Mental Illness.

In addition to the local Library collections you may request books from the larger LRCCS collection by: Faxing (02) 6762 5740;

Emailing lrccs@northnet.com.au;

Writing to PO Box 3052 Tamworth 2340;

or leaving a message on my phone (02) 6762 5210.

LOIS Says On Completing Forms

“If marks were given for form completion, very few students would get 100%. While the Assignment Cover Sheets have improved there is still the matter of the “Date forwarded to Marker”. This keeps the Marker on her toes as it’s easy to “forget” to mark assignments.

From the Desk

The Unit Evaluation Forms are being returned as students complete units. Thank you for these. This feedback is valuable to us as we strive to make the LRCCS model workable for you all by ironing out the inevitable glitches. This feedback is also invaluable as we prepare the next submission for Reaccreditation of the Course and Registration of the College.

Best wishes,

Thanks everyone,

 Jenny
