Dear All,

Well, Jenny has headed off for her overseas adventure.  Her Itinerary includes Dubai, Ethiopia, Italy, Croatia, Norway, Thailand and possibly Ireland.  I did try to convince her to take me with her but she wouldn’t be in it!  It’s be great Jenny is getting a chance to rest and renew.

I hope those who got to hear Arch Hart speak benefited as I did.  Arch expressed strong support of counsellors and their work in aiding the healing process for sufferers of depression.  We have been able to secure many of his books for the library which will be available to borrow soon.  I can personally recommend Arch’s book on Unmasking Male Depression.  The last chapter for partners of depressed men is right on the mark.

From the Desk

The resubmission made to the Higher Education Board.  Has now been responded to and we are currently working on responding to the many points requiring action.  Ruth is coordinating the many people involved in this work while Jenny is away so there will be no change to the processing of Unit Applications while this is being worked on.  Please pray we will be able to meet the requirements of the report and get our Degree reaccredited.

Tip Of The Month

After Arch Hart’s talk on the habits of happiness I thought it would be good to think about the practical suggestions he made about keeping ourselves well and reducing the risk of depression in our own lives.  To do this myself I am applying the ‘15 minute rule’.  Lets look at how this works in practice...

Arch recommended getting 9 hours sleep a night.  If I was to try going from my current level of sleep, 6 hours to 9 hours I would never be able to do it.  Too big a chunk of time!  To try and increase the sleep in my life I am starting small.  I now try to get to bed 15 minutes earlier.  My theory being if every few weeks I add another 15 minutes I will eventually get to the 9 hour goal and be able to adjust my life gradually.  It just doesn’t seem like such a big deal if I am working on it 15 minutes at a time!

What about giving your ‘pleasure centre’ a break and cutting back on the internet.  Again, apply the 15 minute rule, 15 minutes less each day and decrease each week or so.  It just doesn’t seem like such a big sacrifice and certainly keeps the web surfing focussed!

Best wishes,

Kathryn
