Dear All,What a year it has been. We have celebrated some great moments like seeing students beginning their counselling careers and finding that they can counsel. We have also experienced great disappointment with the continuing problems around the reaccreditation of the course and the rounds of rewriting and renegotiation that that entails. A Happy, Holy Christmas to you all, Jenny and Kathryn Enclosed for your InformationThere is a list of new books in the Tamworth Library and also Mental Health Websites. Tutorials & PracticalsNumbers Attending TutorialsThere has been an uneven distribution of students across the Tutorials this year. This makes it difficult for Tutors to conduct groups effectively. Students are asked to attend the Tutorial group which is closest to them geographically. As the comments are anonymous we aren’t able to respond to individuals. The positive responses about various aspects of the course are welcome and included: learning the counselling skills, relating personal experience to counselling practice, appreciation of the interaction and fellowship with other students, tutorials (for students who can attend) and being challenged by the assignments. In responding to some of the other comments: Information about writing assignments is in the Light Green Book “Introduction to Counselling Studies” which all students receive at the beginning. The 103 Unit text by Corkille Briggs is somewhat out dated and we would welcome suggestions of a comparable text which is more recent. We have discovered that CD’s do not operate in every player. It is best to try several machines before concluding that the CD is faulty. The Depression in the Grief, Loss and Depression Unit is around Grief and Loss. Accreditation of the CourseWe are still awaiting the outcome of our Appeal with the Department of Education and Training. While we are unable to offer the accredited course to new students, continuing students are able to complete the course they undertook. We will continue to enrol students who wish to begin studying the course, on the understanding that the course is not currently accredited. We trust to God that all will be well eventually. |
