Dear All, It’s been a busy two weeks for us at the College. After the excitement of the Residential and Tutorial last weekend we spent Monday with Robyn Maher who is a VET Help consultant. Our Vet Manager, Kathryn, had organised for Robyn to assist us in preparing our submission for registration of the College as a Training Organisation (an RTO). Barry Mason and Lauren Brown are also assisting us with this large task. On Tuesday Steve Cunneen (CCS Board Treasurer) and I visited Professor Steve Campbell at UNE to explore articulation of the College Course with similar courses at the University. There will be an ongoing dialogue about this. Armidale Tutorial The next Tutorial with Bettina in Armidale will be November 28, 9:30am to 4:30 PM at the Diocesan Registry. Those unable to attend please call 6772 9753 Inverell Tutorial Please note: There will be a tutorial in Inverell on 21st November with Jenny in ACS rooms, 9 Ross Street from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Please call 6722 2766 if you are not able to attend. Leave a message if phone is unattended. Moree Tutorial The next tutorial in Moree will be held with Wendy on November 7 9:30 to 4:30 at the Wesley Centre on Frome Street, if numbers are sufficient. Tamworth Tutorial The next Tamworth Tutorial will be held with Fran on Saturday 14th November at the College in 88 Bridge Street from 9.00 am – 4.00 pm. Please call 6762 5210 if unable to attend. There will be no Tutorials in December. Tutorials Tutorials take on new importance as we move toward the new training model where students will need to move more quickly through the required Units. It is essential that students attend all tutorials made available to them to assist them to reach the required level of practical hours and skill. PACFA estimates that an experienced counsellor needs to conduct 5 hours of counselling each week to keep their counselling skills. How can students learn and maintain their skills without regular practice? As decided at the Residential, Tutorials will still be held on Saturdays.A calendar for 2010 tutorials will be made available for students to assist with the planning of practical hours. The new arrangement assumes that all students assigned to a tutor will attend unless they call in advance. Messages may be left on the answering machine in your centre Manilla Residential 14-16 October Fifteen students and 1 husband participated in the Residential held at the Abbey and the Convent in Manilla. It was an enjoyable time for all. Many thanks to Fran, Wendy and Bettina who led the sessions giving their time, skills and personal stories. Appreciation goes to Larraine and Allen White for the great food and hospitality over the 3 days, Thank you both yet again, for an amazing venue. Thanks to the students for their cheerful willingness to participate in the practice sessions and their contribution to the smooth running of the house. The importance of early registration should be emphasised as it ensures that Carolyn and Larraine have adequate notice for organising and catering. N.B.
