Dear All,

It’s all over for another year. It’s been a big year for the College as we found our way forward as a separate entity from the Anglican Counselling Service.

During the year we have developed the College Short Courses. These have given us new ways of teaching counselling skills and another income source.

I want to thank the College staff: Kathryn, Carolyn, Nancy, Jane and Colleen, the Tutors: Wendy, Bettina, Fran and Libby, Markers: Catherine, Joy, Sharon, Wendy and Barry and our hard working Board members who have stayed with us as we found our way towards VETAB course accreditation.

Armidale Tutorial

The next Tutorial with Bettina in Armidale will be November 28, 9:30am to 4:30 PM at the Diocesan Registry. Those planning to attend please call 6772 9753

Tutorials

  • There will be no Tutorials in December

Attendance at tutorials is emphasised. It is important not only for valuable practical hours but also for exchange of information and face-to-face mentoring from your tutors. A calendar showing all tutorial dates for 2010 is enclosed. Those wishing to accumulate extra hours or attend other tutorials, may ring and book into another tutorial. Numbers are as follows:

Armidale –6772 9753      Next tutorial, 20th March 2010

Inverell- 6722 2766          Next tutorial, 13th February 2010

Tamworth—6762 5210   Residential Practical Weekend, 20-21st February 2010, All students encouraged to attend.  Next tutorial, 13th March 2010

The arrangement is that all students assigned to a tutor will attend. You do need to call in advance so we know the numbers who will be attending. Messages may be left on the answering machine in your centre.

Residentials & Workshops

Please note on the Tutorial Calendar for 2010 that the Residential dates are set for February 20-21 and July 5,6,&7. ACS Counsellor Workshops’ are planned on 22/23April and September 30—October 1 . The first addresses Child Abuse, Domestic Violence and Suicide Prevention and the second is about Emotion Focused Therapy for Sadness, Loss and Grief. Students are urged to attend as these are perennial issues in counselling.

Short Courses

Short courses continue to be run throughout the area. These include Know Yourself, Listening for Relating,, parts 1 and 2, Conflict Resolution and Cultural Awareness. These would be valuable to students or perhaps, you can promote them among friends.

Christmas Break

The Tamworth office will be closed from 24th December to 4th January. Jenny will be away from 21st December to 12th January. Kathryn will also be away until mid January, so we will only be a skeleton staff in early January. Office hours are 9am to noon except for the week between Christmas & New Year.

A Word to Our Students

The College is very grateful to the students who have remained faithful during what has been a hard year with many uncertainties. Light is beginning to be seen at the end of the tunnel and we look forward to straightening out the issues of accreditation in 2010.

Meanwhile the staff of the College of Counselling Studies

wishes all of you a very

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
