Recognition of Prior LearningLearning takes place in a broad range of contexts. The granting of full or partial Academic Credit for prior learning by the Lois Reid College of Counselling Studies (LRCCS) ensures that students commence study at a level that appropriately recognises their previous learning experiences and that students are not required to repeat learning that they have acquired elsewhere. At LRCCS, Recognition of Prior Learning is understood as the process used to decide whether or not prior learning can be, in full or in part, in lieu of Units of study offered by the College. Up to half the units required for the award to be granted may have full or partial Academic Credit. All RPL Applications are assessed by a Committee of Educators and Counsellors. Types of Prior LearningThe Lois Reid College of Counselling Studies recognises learning from a variety of sources. These include:
Evidence of LearningCertified Copies of Awards, Academic Transcripts, Descriptions of Courses with learning outcomes, Duty Statements, Business Certificate of Registration and References from Work or personal references are some of the documents that may be needed to support your application. Academic Credit (AC) will only be granted when it is clear that the Learning Outcomes of the prior learning are equivalent to those of the LRCCS Unit/s for which AC is being sought. For this reason, it may well be in the Applicant’s best interest to provide additional supporting evidence with the application. This may include copies of assignments, recorded transcribed and critiqued audio/video tape of a counselling session or a written description of the way in which Learning Outcomes have already been achieved for the LRCCS Unit for which RPL is sought. Learning Outcomes for LRCCS Units can be obtained from the LRCCS Office email lrccs@westnet.com.au or Ph (02) 6762 5210.
