CCS offers several short courses for those interested in increasing their own self awareness or gaining basic counselling and communication skills. 

 

Anyone who works with people will benefit from these skills. Examples of careers where these skills would be useful are:

  • Teachers and Medical staff

  • Community workers

  • Team Leaders and Supervisors

 

Currently we offer the following short courses:

 

 

Know Yourself

 

‘To thine own self be true…”

 

This course focuses on the participants themselves. The secret of successful living is often the awareness of your own personal process and biases. This course is a prerequisite for the full counselling course.

 

Involves self exploration and awareness and includes the following:

 

  • Relating with myself

  • Relating with others

  • Working in groups

  • Exploring my response to conflict

 

4 sessions over either 2 weekends or 4 days

 

Course cost is  $380 (subsidies available).  When funding permits they may be offered for free or at a reduced rate. See individual course details below.

Listening For Relating - Part 1

 

Do people often say to you that “you just don’t listen?”

 

This course is for people who care. This includes anyone in a relationship but will be of particular use to those in a helping role. It takes participants through the basic counselling microskills

 

Listening effectively involves:

  • Showing you are listening by minimal responses;

  • Making reflective comments;

  • Repeating your version of what you heard;

  • Reflecting and summarising;

  • Clarifying with appropriate questions ;

  • Reframing and confronting

 

2 sessions over either 1weekend or 2 days

 

Course cost $185 (subsidies available)

Listening for Relating - Part 2

 

The next stage in developing your counselling skills...

 

More about effective listening

Includes:

  • Body Language

  • Understanding without being judgmental

  • Empathy vs sympathy

  • Processing to uncover the hidden thoughts and feelings

 

1  day or two 3 hour sessions

 

Course cost $100 (subsidies available)

Conflict Resolution

 

Conflict is an opportunity for change. This course gives you a background on the causes of conflict along with the skills to manage and resolve it effectively.

 

Course is run over 16 hours - either 8 x 2 hour sessions or 4 x 4 hour sessions.

 

Course cost $280 (subsidies available). When funding permits they may be offered for free or at a reduced rate. See individual course details below.

Cultural Awareness

 

This course assists you in developing your awareness of current local Aboriginal culture using culturally appropriate models.

 

3 hour session
